A 7.8 earthquake hit Iran on 18 April 2013 and is the biggest earthquake the country has had in 40 years. Reports say from Iran that there has been 40 killed and 1000 mud houses destroyed. They are sending 20 search and rescue teams over to help out along with 3 helicopters to search from the sky and transport people to other hospitals faster.
I think that it is very sad that this has happened because most people in Iran don't have much things and now all of their belongings are gone. Also People are spending to much time helping the Boston bomb but not paying attention to the people who have lost their houses.

A girl that has been reported missing found.
Megan Jenkins was reported missing at 5pm last night. She was found my police in fraser hight school the next day around midday. Police say that she is the mental age of 8-9 year old and she felt for her safety when it started raining.
I think that it is quite said that that happened because it was raining and she didn't know what was going on. It is lucky that she was found.

Boston Marathon
On the 16th of April 2 bombs went of at the finish line of the Boston Marathon race. So far 3 are dead one to be known as a little 8 year old boy, but the other 2 have not been identified. There were a lot of people injured and some found with nails plunged into them. A 78 year old man who was at least 5-10 feet away from the finish line was knocked down by the blast but only got away with a graze on his knee, so he was very lucky.
I think that is it terrible what has happened to these people and it is very sad that a 8 year old boy died and a mans girlfriend who he was going to asked to marry at the raced had also lost her life. I hope they find who did this so they can be put away.

Rimu house challenge: Physical activity and the outdoor: Complete a sport for an entire season.
My Volleyball Season
One of my challenges for the rimu house challenge was to complete an entire season of sport. I decided I should do volleyball, as it is one of my favorite sports. Last year I also did volleyball and really enjoyed it. In my group last year there was Aimee, Amelia (from Kahikatea house), Paris, Amy (who now goes to Tauranga Girls) and me. We were called the blondines.
Being a part of the Blondines was great because I had all my friends were in the team.
This year I have a different group of my friends in my volleyball team. My friends had come up with a social volleyball team and asked me if I'd like to join too. I said yes and we became the T.I.S Teddy Bears. We were ready to take on anyone! My Friends in my team this year are kate, Nicole, Aimee, Renee and me. I thought we were going to do ok since we had a lot of mixed strengths in our group. Nicole was definitely our best player she saved the ball, served really well and kept supporting everyone. Kate and I do pretty good at defending the ball, often stopping it from touching the ground on our side and score us the point. Aimee and Renee were the main people for serving. They could get the ball over the net where the opposite team wouldn't be expecting it and also their serves were not all over the place.
All of our games were on a Thursday, and the game time would usually be either at 3.15pm or 3.50pm after school. We played all our games in the school gymnasium. We played one game at lunchtime, which was really cool since our other friends could come watch and cheers us on.
But sadly even though we all had good strengths in our T.I.S Teddy Bears team, we were no match for the other teams that took their volleyball very very seriously. But we tried our best, had a lot of fun and became closer as friends. We never won any of our games, but we didn't mind as most of the scores were quite close and we tried our best. This Thursday coming up on 18th April 2013, which is a championship game and our very last one.
In conclusion I really enjoyed playing volleyball and without a doubt I will be doing it again in term 4!

Man kills again after being bailed from jail.
Michael Curran was sent to jail in 2005 for the murder of a 27 year old lady by strangling her. He was sentenced life in jailed then not long after he was granted bail by Justice Mark Cooper. Once he was free he assaulted and killed a little 2 year girl named Aliyah Morrissey then left her in his car.
I think that it is horrible that he did that when he just got free and he did that especially to a little girl.

Man is to tightrope across the Grand Canyon
Nik Wallenda is going to set another world record by tightroping across the Grand Canyon in June on a 500m wire without a safety harness. Nik Wallenda aslo set a record last year in June to tightrope arcross Niagara Falls. Nik said he that this has been on his bucket list for as long as he had began tightroping.
I think that it is really cool that he is doing it because a lot of tight ropers wouldn't have the nerve to do this so you can see he is true about this stuff.

Homework expectations
Amount
We think that 30-45 minutes every weeknight is a reasonable expectation for homework. Per week that equals approximately 2.5 hours per week of homework.
2 terms = 20 weeks. Every homework task should take you 5 hours to do.
Quality
You need to work on each homework task for at least 2.5 to 5 hours. It should like it was done by a year 8 student. The product you make (if relevant) should look good quality.

Ex warriors ruby players wife paralyzed
Ben Lythe's wife Miranda is seriously injured after hurdling of a flying fox then crashing into a pile of rubble. Miranda was taken to hospital immediately and found out she had damaged her spine and is now paralyzed from the waist down. The family was quite upset as she can't do much thing with them now.The family said they are taking one day at a time slowly.

Man kills 13 in serbian shooting spree
A former soldier shooter who has not yet been named went on a shooting rampage about 5am- 5.30am in Serbia. He gunned down his mother his son his 2 yr old cousin then 10 other neighbors. He started with his son and the his mother who was trying to get out of the house with the little cousin then went from house to house killing everyone instantly. The police still have know idea why he did this but are still investigating.
Everyone found it quite shocking. They described him as a loving and a helping man.
I think that is is very sad what he did because a lot of them would of been young. I am glad that they caught him.

Mail thief jailed
Philippa Lynette Lindsay age 32 was finally jailed after stealing around about 21,000 items of mail. She started the theft around October 2011 to november 2012 until she was finally caught and sentenced 17 months in jail. Philippa was from queens town and appeared in the queenstown district court. The reason why she did it or how is still unknown.
