My day and a half at girls' self defence

All day Monday and half a day on Tuesday all the year 8 rimu house girls went to learn girls' self defense. The lady who was teaching us was called Alison but we called her Ali.

There, I learn't the sensitive parts on a attacker and what to do to them if they grab me. I learn't different types of punches and kick to help me defend myself.

Ali showed me how to use my voice. I need to say things strong and with power if someone grabs me or touches me and I don't like it.

At the end of a lesson we would listen to stories about what has happened to people and how they got out of it. Listening to the stories made me feel more confident that I could get away from something like that if I believed.

In the end we got certificates and posters. On the posters it showed the sensitive areas on a attacker and will give you some options on what you can do. It also had phone numbers that you can call if you need to talk to someone about something or you need help.

I am really grateful that Ali could come and teach us that stuff. All of us feel much confident to go out now and we know what to do.
